English is not my native language, but I am currently learning it. I am attempting to write articles in English to help others who may be searching for information. Some sentences might sound awkward or unusual, and I hope you understand. I welcome any questions you may have, and I’ll be happy to respond.
Rebirth of a Gem: Siam Plug In Hostel
Siam Plug In Hostel opened in 2017 and quickly became known as a popular restaurant and hostel in the area. Unfortunately, it had to close down in June 2021 due to the pandemic and remained closed for three years.
In June 2024, a new management team took over, bringing this hidden gem back to life to welcome travelers from around the world.
The hostel’s name, Siam Plug In, reflects its concept of breathing new life and energy into the “Charoen Nakhon” neighborhood by combining Thai-inspired elements with industrial loft design—much like plugging a cord into a power source.
The hostel’s philosophy is to create a warm, homely environment that inspires travelers to explore the world. It’s a place where you can start your authentic encounter with Thai culture through food, lifestyle, art, and traditional architecture, much like plugging into a cultural power source.
Nestled in a quiet alley, Siam Plug In Hostel provides a peaceful retreat from the bustling city center. Just a three-minute walk to Sena Fest shopping mall, which offers various restaurants and supermarkets.
It’s also near the Bangkok Riverside and just a 15-minute walk from ICONSIAM, making it easy to enjoy the city’s attractions.
Unique Space: Café and Hostel
Siam Plug In Hostel spans four floors, with a café and restaurant on the ground level and accommodations on the second and third floors. Non-staying guests are welcome to drop by for a meal or coffee.
The building, a restored heritage structure, retains its historical charm while embracing modern industrial aesthetics and contemporary Thai architectural elements. Every detail showcases the owner’s refined taste and dedication.
During my visit, the hostel was hosting a Halloween-themed event. The decorations and party added a festive touch to the communal area on the ground floor, which serves as both a lounge and dining space for guests.
The space is truly fascinating! On the first floor, not only is there a water dispenser, but you can also spot some thoughtful design details. Particularly, the large picture frame near the staircase entrance on the left gives an artistic touch.
Guests moving up and down the stairs can see each other, like living paintings, which adds a personal and friendly vibe. This clever design perfectly matches the overall industrial and Thai styles, creating a layered and atmospheric setting.
24-Hour Check-In: Perfect for Red-Eye Travelers
<CHECK IN >
Check-in is available from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, but the hostel accommodates late arrivals with prior notice. It’s a red-eye flight-friendly hostel! When I first visited Thailand, my flight arrived near midnight, so I appreciated the flexible check-in time.
The front desk on the ground floor handles check-in, and after confirming your reservation, guests receive a towel and are shown to their rooms.

Hostel Tour
Shoes are removed upon entering the second floor, where the floors are kept clean enough to walk barefoot.
The stylish staircase features embedded lights, illuminating both the steps and the framed photos on the wall, which depict various Bangkok cityscapes and architectural details, giving the space an artistic feel.
On the second level, a sizable map of Bangkok decorates the wall, carefully highlighting all the city’s well-known landmarks and attractions. This helps guests easily navigate and discover the nearby area.
Room Types and Facilities
The hostel primarily offers dormitory-style bunk beds, each equipped with privacy curtains, reading lights, and sockets. For those traveling with family or friends, two private rooms are also available.
Private Rooms: Triple Room with Shared Bathroom
This private room features a double bed and a single bed, designed in a minimalist industrial style. The room has white walls, exposed brick, and concrete ceilings, creating a simple yet chic atmosphere.
Each room is named after a Bangkok pier; I stayed in “Tha-Tien,” a room equipped with an electronic lock for easy access.
The vintage wall lamp provides a warm, mysterious glow, making the white brick walls feel somewhat like an igloo (although I’ve never stayed in one!).
The room has an open clothes rack made of exposed metal pipes, with hangers for convenience, and a platform for luggage.
While the private room uses shared bathrooms, a handy sink inside the room adds a nice touch. It’s perfect for basic washing up without having to use the shared sinks.
The only downside is the lack of power outlets near the headboard.
The second-floor shared bathrooms are divided by gender, with separate toilets and showers. The wooden door latches add a special touch.
Each bathroom has two shelves for toiletries and provided shower gel and shampoo. The fixed shower heads have good water pressure and temperature.
Mixed Dormitory Room
Having stayed in many unique backpacker hostels, I’ve found industrial style to be quite common due to its durability and modern look. However, it’s rare to see this style extended into the rooms themselves.
In the mixed dormitory room, beds are arranged in singles and doubles, each with privacy curtains (though they are sheer and slightly see-through).
The metal pipe ladders to the upper bunks are particularly cool, with added foam for comfort and stability.
Well-Equipped Beds
Each bed has a lamp, socket, and a lockable locker. The locker key is provided with the room key and is large enough to fit a bag. This means you don’t have to carry all your belongings to the bathroom or shower.
The third-floor shared bathrooms are even more spacious, with extra partitions in the female section.
They were clean and well-maintained, with plenty of facilities to avoid any waiting time.
Perfect Rooftop for Socializing
The rooftop terrace, with its vintage red brick walls and intentionally irregular design, creates a time-travel feel. This contrasts with the modern city skyline, maintaining safety without obstructing the view.
The rooftop ambiance changes dramatically from day to night. At night, it’s a peaceful corner surrounded by city lights, while during the day, the red brick feels warm and natural, with artificial grass adding a fresh touch, like a secret garden in the sunshine.

Personal Experience
Bangkok’s hostel market is highly competitive, with many options available for just a few hundred baht per night. This was my first visit to Thailand, and I stayed at six different backpackers hostel. This place was my top-rated and most recommended stay, excelling in design, service, hygiene, convenience, comfort, and price.
When choosing a hostel, I consider not only price but also safety, cleanliness, and location. Hostel is conveniently located, and I advise not to be misled by some Google reviews that may be influenced by incentives.
Even though Bangkok has many high-value hotels, I prefer hostels for solo or group travel because meeting fellow travelers is a significant part of the journey. During my two-night stay, I was lucky to experience Halloween, with the hostel hosting a party in the café. It was simple and cozy, with board games, DIY crafts, and tarot readings. The staff, mostly young and enthusiastic, invited their friends and guests to join. I shared some snack I brought from Taiwan, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The Halloween craft activity became my favorite souvenir from the trip, a charming and memorable keepsake.
The café on the ground floor serves breakfast for an extra charge, but with so much delicious food in Thailand, I was usually too full from the night before to eat breakfast. If you visit Thailand and try the Siam Plug In Café & Bistro breakfast, I’d love to hear about your experience!
